Children might look fine from outside, but deep within the child is going through a chronic disease, diabetes. Encourage your child to eat healthy foods at home, like vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. Mae sure to include high fiber food in the diet plans which can actually help improve the blood sugar levels. Avoid fast food which contains more saturated fat, more sugar and salt than what’s prepared at home.
- Daily Exercise
Regular exercise improves the blood glucose level in the body. Children should take part in sports activities to maintain body weight. The fat in the body leads to obesity which becomes the major cause of diabetes.
- Regular Blood Sugar Checkup
This is dependent on what type of medication is your child taking for diabetes. Regular testing of blood sugar level determines the control of diabetes in children. Even after taking medication, factors like food intake, stress, physical activity and exercise can affect blood sugar level.
Type 2 diabetes can be controlled with medication in some children and some can control with exercise and diet. Children with type 1 diabetes will have to rely on insulin. Treatment depends on the child’s behavior and preference, blood sugar level, other health problems, and complications.
Diabetes in children should be taken more seriously than in adults because it is all about the future. And being the parents, it becomes your responsibility to control it and it is manageable if we become aware of the symptoms of diabetes in children.
