- Check your feet every day for any cuts, blisters, redness or any swelling. If you notice anything, consult your doctor.
- Wash your legs and feet every day with warm water. Do not soak your feet in warm water.
- Take out extra time to dry your feet thoroughly.
- Keep your legs and feet moisturized after washing your feet every day. Dry skin will cause more harm to your feet, that is not good. Do not put lotion between the toes as it will cause fungal infection to develop.
- Take extra time when drying between your toes.
- Trim your nails carefully and properly once a week and the best time is to do it after washing them. Cut them straight and not too short as this could lead to ingrown toenails.
- Always wear either shoes or slippers with socks to keep from getting blisters. Never walk barefoot, even at home.
- Do not wear thick or bulky socks which can irritate the skin.
- Avoid tight elastic tops styles socks which can stop blood circulation.
- Always check inside your shoes for any sharp objects that might harm your feet.
You must be responsible for your legs and feet if diagnosed with diabetes. As said “Prevention is better than cure”, problems can be taken care if immediate action is taken if there is a pain in legs and feet.
